Glacier Walk with Introduction to Ice Climbing

This is the perfect tour for those who like to try Ice Climbing for the first time. The tour starts from our base by Sólheimajökull glacier in the South of Iceland.

After getting ready at our base we head out to the Sólheimajökull. It is only about 20-minute walk from the base to the glacier and on the way, you get to see a small glacier lagoon and how the glacier has formed the surrounding there.

After reviewing safety and how to use the equipment we head out on the glacier to find a place to do some Ice Climbing. The Sólheimajökull glacier is changing a lot from day to day so we always have to do some glacier walk and look for the best possible place to do the Ice climbing.

Before we start to climb we go over the basic technique for Ice Climbing and then we get on with the climbing. Climbing glacier ice is a good fun that requires resourcefulness more than strength.

After the Ice Climbing we walk back, but on the way, we will inform you about the glacier and the volcano Katla that is sleeping underneath the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap and Sólheimajökull glacier.

Sólheimajökull glacier is a great place to see the impact of climate change on nature. The glacier has been melting a lot for the past 20 years on average about 55 meters a year.
