ATV, Black Beaches and DC3 Plane Wreck

The tour starts at the Arcanum base. After gearing up and going over the tour plan and safety instruction we head down to the black sand and the coast line. On the way we cross a few small rivers. When we are down at the black sand we head across the coast line towards the old plane wreck. From there we drive across the black sand and return to the base.

This tour will give you the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent and unique landscape formed by the volcano Katla which now lies dormant under the icecap Mýrdalsjökull. Weather and visibility allowing, the great view to the glacier and along the coast line to Dyrhólaey can be enjoyed.

Please note: All drivers must be 17 years of age or older and have a full, valid driver's license. A learner's permit, tractor, or motorcycle license is not sufficient according to Icelandic law.

This was one of the best times I have ever had. Our guides Raven and Javier were awesome. Driving through the streams was a blast. The scenery was unbelievable. Driving on the Black Lava Sand beach was like none other. The plane wreck was really cool. This is one unforgettable way to see South Iceland that your regular tours cannot. It is highly recommended.

My cousin roped me into doing the 1-hour black sand beach ATV with her and it greatly exceeded my expectations. I was very timid on the ATV but our tour guide, Micah, was extremely kind and patient. While ATV'ing is not an activity that I would seek out again, this particular tour was great fun, all thanks to our excellent guide. For adventure seekers, this tour is a must!
