Sólheimajökull Glacier

Arcanum Glacier Hikes are all done on Sólheimajökull glacier which is an outlet from the Mýrdalsjökull glacier icecap. The surface of the glacier is a bit rugged and there are also some crevasses. Therefore it is necessary to do the glacier hikes with experienced glacier guides.
There are many natural wonders close to the glacier area and a traveler can easily spend 2-3 days discovering different things every day. Waterfalls like Skógarfoss and Seljalandsfoss are both beautiful and very accessible and photographers love to do shots there. Þórsmörk valley is a beautiful spot, a hikers paradise - and the Myrdalsjökull glacier is at the rear end of the valley. The canyon Stakkholtsgjá in Þórsmörk is something not to be missed. The vegetation in the area is mainly birchwood, moss and small shrubs. One of the most popular walking routes in Iceland goes over Fimmvörðuháls, Five Cairns Pass and ends in the Þórsmörk valley.
