Game of Thrones locations in South Iceland
Almost everyone has heard about Game of Thrones or even seen this hugely popular TV-series. But did you know that Iceland provides many of the beautiful scenes in this series? So, while visiting Iceland you have the opportunity to visit locations that may seem familiar from the TV-screen
The magical Skógafoss
Did you see the first episode of Season Eight? If so, you may remember Jon Snow riding a dragon through the snow-covered landscapes of the North. After landing the dragon, Snow and his lover share a moment beneath a magnificent water fall. That waterfall is Skógafoss on the South Coast. It is easily accessible from Ring Road 1 and is very popular among tourist and Icelanders.
Black sands and roaring seas
In the seventh Season of Game of Thrones scenes, shot in Reynisfjara on the Southern Coast, make their mark on the great scenes of the series. Reynisfjara was a part of the coastal geography around Eastwatch by the Sea which the army of dead is marching toward. Reynisfjara consists of volcanic black sands which gives it an otherworldly look. The powerful Atlantic Ocean takes land on Reynisfjara with all its power. Reynisdrangar, two rock pillars, fight their endless game with the ocean.

After leaving the beach the group will head to the famous plane wreck on Sólheimasandur, but the wreck has been resting in the sand since 1973. Next you will drive to Jökulsá river and to the roots of the mountain. The tour ends at the Arcanum base camp.
The White World of Mýrdalsjökull
Fans of Game of Thrones do surely remember that in Season Two the men of the Night’s Watch trek through the Frostfangs in order to reach the Fist of the First Men. This they do in the hope of gaining advantage over their enemies. The dreaded White Walkers take them by surprise when they bunker down when preparing for an attack from Mance Rayder’s army.
These scenes were shot on Mýrdalsjökull glacier which is a large glacier that cover the volcano Katla. Mýrdalsjökull is very popular for hiking and ice climbing because how close it is to the Capital area.
