Sólheimajökull Glacier

Arcanum Glacier Tours are all done  on  Sólheimajökull glacier which  is an outlet from the Mýrdalsjökull glacier icecap.  The surface of the glacier is a bit rugged and there are also some  crevasses. Therfore it is necessary to do the glacier  tours with  experienced glacier guides.  After an exciting tour on the glacier it is  nice to go to the Glacier Café for a hot cocoa or a glass of something stronger.

There are many natural wonders close to  the glacier area and a traveler can easily spend 2-3 days discoevering  different things every day.  Waterfalls like Skógarfoss and   Seljalandsfoss are both beautiful and very accessible and photographers love to do shots there.  The Arcanum Guesthouse is open during the summer months,  june – august.  A good place to stay for those who want to explore the area.

Þórsmörk valley is a beautiful spot,  a hikers paradise - and the Myrdalsjökull glacier is at the rear end of the valley.  The canyon Stakkholtsgjá in Þórsmörk is something not to be missed.  The vegatation in the area is mainly birchwood, moss and small shrubs.  One of the most popular walking routes in Iceland  goes  over Fimmvörðuháls, Five Cairns Pass and ends in the Þórsmörk valley.

Last but not least - don’t forget  to visit the black sands down at the sea,  where visitors can enjoy quad biking.  Arcanum Glacier Tours offer Quad biking  as well as the ones on the glaciers.   See you in Iceland SOON !
